The TRC has banned giving SIM cards to the dead!

The Director (Compliance and Investigations) of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Mrs. Fraudika Livera, said that telephone service companies have been informed not to issue mobile phone codes to the National Identity Card numbers of deceased persons. She has revealed that the names of deceased persons, their national identity card numbers and a list of the telephone numbers they used are obtained from each divisional secretariat in the island once a month to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission. She said that after the death of a person, mobile phone service companies have been informed to disconnect the relevant mobile phone number and to prohibit the issuance of SIMPs to his or her National Identity Card number.
