Former MP Shri Ranga arrested
Former Member of Parliament Mr. J. Sriranga, who did not attend the trial assigned to him in connection with the death of a police sergeant attached to the elite security division in a car accident, was arrested today (17) by the officers of the Kohuwala Police at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. According to a warrant issued by Vavuniya (Mannaram) High Court judge Mr. Mohammad Mihal, Mr. J. Sriranga, the defendant in the case, was arrested by a team of officers of the Kohuwala Police. The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office stated that Mr. J. Sriranga, who was arrested by the police while being treated at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital due to an illness, will be presented to the High Court. The judge issued warrants against Mr. J. Sriranga, who was accused of causing the death of a police sergeant in a car accident in Settikulama area of Vavuniya and concealing information by presenting false information. On March 30, 2011, the Attorney General filed a case against Mr. J. Sri Ranga in the Vavuniya High Court for causing the death of a police sergeant in a car accident in Settikulama area of Vavuniya for manslaughter and concealing information by presenting false information. The officers of the Police Special Investigation Unit informed the court that according to the information received, the accused Mr. J. Sriranga had made phone calls and threatened two people who gave evidence in this case and then took the witnesses in a van and took them to another place and put pressure on them. Accordingly, the High Court Judge issued warrants for his immediate arrest. At that time, Mr. J. Sriranga, who was being treated at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital due to an illness, was arrested by the police. (Lankadeep)
