MG pakistan has launched a Ramadan offer on its crossover SUV MG HS Essence. In a social media post, the company has announced to get ready for Eid festivities by taking advantage of the Ramadan offer to book the MGHS Essence at a whopping price of Rs 8,190,000 (ex-factory price). However, this offer is for a limited time and terms and conditions apply. Speaking to PakWales, an MG official said that the company has decided to provide convenience to people ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. He further said that HS price has not been increased due to Ramadan amid the increase. It is worth mentioning that most of the major car companies in pakistan have introduced price hikes after the implementation of 25% GST on luxury items from March 8, 2023. 25 percent GST on luxury items Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced in his speech on Finance (Supplementary) Act 2023 that the government is imposing 25 percent General Sales Tax (GST) on luxury items. On March 8, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) released a list of luxury items. Surprisingly, cars of 1400cc and above, all SUVs, CUVs and 4×4 cabin vehicles were among the luxury items. While SUVs and 4x4s may be luxury items, it was surprising to include cars of 1400 cc and above in the category of luxury vehicles as these cars are mostly considered middle class cars. So, companies are increasing their prices after this announcement. Notably, for some companies, these are the third or fourth price hikes, highlighting the plight of the industry.
